Demo versus real accounts: what you can verify

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Explained concepts, worked cases and practice to test your understanding. Numerical examples are hypothetical; replace assumptions with your instrument specifications.

01

The essentials

Demo teaches an interface and lets you rehearse without real money. It does not establish identical quotes, liquidity, costs or execution in a live account. Simulated results also do not prove your reaction to an actual loss.

02

Understand the mechanism, not just the definition

A demo teaches workflow, checks calculations and rehearses a repeatable process. It does not validate reactions to real losses or guarantee identical execution. Distinguish a functionality test from a performance test. A few favorable outcomes may reflect market selection, the period or incomplete costs.

03

Example and verification

Test a full cycle: find a symbol, read specifications, enter a small simulated order, add protection and review history. Record what you verified and what remains. A large virtual balance can conceal the impact of that size on a smaller account.

04

Worked case, step by step

Design ten simulated trades to enter volume correctly and record all costs, not to finish profitable. If nine are documented and one has the wrong volume, the useful finding is the operational error. Correct its cause and repeat. Increasing size to compensate changes the experiment and hides its learning objective.

05

What to verify when applying this

Choose a demo compatible with your device and required platform. Before going live, review contract, costs and funding. Describe an interface test as such rather than turning it into a financial assessment of the broker.

06

Practice: verify it in your environment

Learn by observing the process and keeping its data. Complete this practice in demo or using documentation, without sending real orders or adding capital for the exercise. Record differences between the example and your account specifications.

  1. Define one observable session objective: volume, orders, closing or export.
  2. Record errors and corrections before evaluating price outcomes.
07

Test your understanding

Try the question before revealing the answer. Justify the conclusion and its assumptions rather than memorizing a number.

Do ten winning demo trades validate a strategy?

Reveal the explained answer

No. That sample does not establish robustness, realistic costs or behavior in other periods. It may validate only the functions actually tested.
